Saturday, December 5th was a busy day in the Town of Tazewell, and the Tazewell County Historical Society was honored to take part in the festivities. TCHS held its annual Open House, welcoming guests from Colorado, Vermont, and Florida! Next, the fun continued with the Christmas parade – special thanks to Randy and Kassie Elswick for our float!
Following the parade, several TCHS members continued the celebration at the Tazewell Train Station – a special place in our historical hearts – by helping out at their Open House. Last December we kicked off their fundraising efforts at our Christmas dinner and were able to raise $1000 to donate to the Tazewell Train Station during that very dinner.
Sunday proved to be a busy day for TCHS as well, as the weekend finished up with our annual Christmas dinner. New officers were approved for 2016, including Stephanie Musick as our Corresponding Secretary, Delores Blankenship as our Recording Secretary, Susan Reeves as our Treasurer, and John Reeves as our Vice President. We welcomed our newest members, Bob and Jean Smith, and the meal prepared and served by the ladies group at Pisgah United Methodist Church was delicious!
Dr. Terry Mullins had a wonderful announcement for TCHS – the Town of Tazewell has given us $5000! This is incredible news for us, and we are very thankful to the Town of Tazewell for the opportunities this money provides us with.
